Kickball Rules

Schedule - All games are to be played at the time, date and place specified on the schedule posted online.

Roster - Each team can have as many players as they choose. The roster minimum for kickball is 10 players.

Forfeits  - Teams need a minimum of 7 players to start a game. The 7- player minimum must consist of at least two female players present during the game. If a team cannot field the 7-player requirement, they are allowed to pick up players to meet the 7-player requirement but no more than that to start the game. (Additional subs up to 10 players total can be approved at opposing captain's discretion)

If your team is not able to field a team for any given week, please notify Prime Time 48 hours in advance so we can notify the opposing team.

Forfeits will be scored as 10-0 as the final match score.

Teams that forfeit 2 or more games will not be eligible for playoffs.

Substitute Players - Substitute players are allowed up to the minimum amount needed to play (7 players) and anything after that needs to be approved by the opposing captain and will only be done so as a courtesy by that captain if they choose to do so.

Field Lights - If for some reason the field lights turn off mid game the game will be finished at that time. The score will be considered final and inputted as is. If this occurs during finals, a make-up game date will be given to finish the game out to totality.

Taunting/ Unsportsmanlike Conduct - No taunting / unsportsmanlike conduct will be allowed. Any unsportsmanlike behavior will be given one warning and after that the player will be asked to leave. If they refuse to leave the field their team will receive a forfeit.

Base Coaches and Dug Out - Base coaches are allowed at both 1st and 3rd base to advise players running bases. Base coaches must remain at least 5 feet away from their respective base so they are not seen as a player on base to the opposing team or official. All other players MUST remain in their own dugout while waiting their turn to kick. There is no “on deck circle” for the next kicker in line so the “on deck” player must also remain in their dug out until it is their turn to kick.

Equipment

All games will be played with a 10'' rubber kickball. Kickballs are provided by Prime Time Sports League.

Cleats are allowed; however, all cleats must be plastic molded. NO METAL SPIKES OR SCREW IN METAL TIPPED CLEATS.

No gloves or additional catching aids will be permitted while on defense.

The infield / base paths are marked with 3 bases, 1 safety base at 1st base, and a home plate. Cones will mark pitching space as well as batter's box.

Rosters and Lineups

Games are played in a 10v10 format. Teams may not play with more than 6 male players on the field at any given time. To have a full 10 player team defense your roster must have at least 4 female players.

A team may field 7 players from their roster to start the game, however, two of those players must be female. If a team has less than 7 players, they can pick up players from another team to meet the 7-player minimum.

Kicking lineups must be presented to the umpire from each team before the game. Once the lineups have been submitted the lineup can no longer be changed.

All players must be listed in the kicking order.

Kicking order must consist of a 1 male - 1 female rotation. If a team has more of one gender the majority will stay consistent through the lineup and the minority will fill in order as necessary to meet this requirement.

If a player sustains an injury mid game the team captain must notify the umpire to remove the player from the lineup at no penalty to the team.

Game Play

All games are 45 minutes in length or 7 innings long, whichever comes first. Once the 45 minutes has expired a new full inning will not start but the current inning will be played out.

Regular season games can end in a tie.

Mercy rule will take place if a team is leading by more than 15 runs (after 3 innings have been played). If the home team is not leading, they will have the opportunity to kick at the bottom of the inning to attempt to keep the team from the mercy rule.

Kicking

This league will be a team pitch style league. The kicker is allowed two pitches. They can choose to take the first or second (or both if the first one goes foul and is not caught by the defense). If the player does not kick the ball into fair play on either attempt they will be out.

The kicker must kick with their plant foot entirely behind the front of home plate (the plane extends laterally from both sides). If the kickers plant foot extends past the home plate the play will deemed a dead play and the kicker will receive one foul. If this occurs on your second allowed kick attempt you will be considered out.

Double kicks are not permitted. A double kick will be considered a foul ball. If this occurs on your second allowed kick attempt you will be considered out.

If a player steps on the ball instead of kicking it or steps on a ball and tries to roll it as a kick it will be deemed a foul ball. If this occurs on your second allowed kick attempt you will be considered out.

Kicks can be made with any part of the leg.

Bunting is allowed by any player however a catchers rule will be implemented. If the catcher is able to get to your bunt before you reach first base you will be given a foul. If this occurs on your second allowed kick attempt you will be considered out. If any other player touches the ball before the catch the catcher rule will not apply. If the kicker makes it to first before the catcher grabs the ball the play will be considered live and will continue on.

There is no leading off from your base. If you lead off to gain a running advantage the umpire can rule you as out. There is also no stealing of bases. Players can not move from their base until the ball has been kicked.

There is no infield fly rule. All kicks are fair play and will need to be recovered by the defense. A defender can choose to not catch a fly ball to attempt a double play if they so choose.

Players can not slide into a base to avoid a tag or throw out. (Headfirst or feet first)

Players can overrun first base by running through the orange bag next to first. If they choose to round towards second after touching the orange bag they will be considered a live player.

If a runner intentionally or unintentionally gets hit by the ball before safely getting to their base than that player is ruled out and play will be stopped. Baserunners will return to their previous bases.

Pitching

This is considered a team pitch league and the pitcher will pitch to their own teammates.

The pitcher can make two pitch attempts per team kicker. The kicker does not need to take the first pitch but must put a kick into fair territory with 1 of their 2 kicks. If the kickers first kick attempt is a foul ball the pitcher will pitch to them a second time.

There is no mechanism for intentional walks. All kickers must be pitched to.

Pitches must be released from within the pitchers circle / mound.

The pitcher must remain on the mound / in the circle and can not interfere with a live ball. If a pop fly occurs above the pitchers mound or a line drive comes at the pitcher, the pitcher must use their best judgement to get out of the way of the defender attempting to grab the ball.

If the pitcher is hit by a live ball the play will be considered dead and no runners may advanced. A re-kick will happen if the kicker has a kick available. If the kicker is on their second kick attempt they will be out.

Fielding

There is no gender field positions for defense. Male and female players can play any position on the field they would like to.

Prior to the pitch there can not be more than 6 players in the infield.

In a 10 v 10 format there must be at least 4 female defenders on the field.

The fielders must stand behind a parallel line that runs from 1st base to 3rd base that runs across the pitcher's mound until the ball is kicked.

The catcher must stand behind the plane of the kicker until the ball is kicked. The umpire will use their best judgement when determining the reasonableness of positioning based on the available space behind the kicker. A cone may be placed to represent the catcher’s standing area.

Any foul ball caught in the air is an out. If a foul ball is dropped in foul territory it will be a dead ball and considered a foul ball.

A defensive player can throw or kick the ball to another defender to make an out. If a ball is kicked to another defensive player, it may not contact the runner in the process. If a runner is hit with a kicked ball, they will be considered safe and all players will advance to their next base.

Defensive players can throw the ball at a runner to make the out. Balls that are thrown to make an out must hit a player between the knees and the shoulders. If a runner is hit in the neck/head, they will be considered safe unless they are sliding / ducking and cause the ball to hit them illegally. If a player is intentionally hit below the knees they will be considered safe (what is deemed intentional vs. unintentional will be at the umpires discretion based on the throw).

Once all players stop advancing bases and the ball is returned to the pitcher the umpire will call time for a dead ball. Time can also be called if all play considered dead but the pitcher does not have the ball yet. Once time is called all players must stay on their base and defenders can return to their pre-kick positions. If kickers / runners are still trying to advance and the ball is thrown to the pitcher time will not be called until the play is truly dead.

Offensive interference - If an offensive player intentionally interferes with the play and makes it so defense is incapable of catching the ball (standing under it, blocking the defenders run path to the ball, hitting the ball with their body while running bases) that player will be deemed out and play will be stopped. Players will return to the bases they occupied at time of interference.

Scoring Plays / Home Base

To avoid unwanted collisions at home plate on scoring plays a secondary base will be used (signified by a plate or cones). This plate will be used by the offense only. Defense will use the normal home plate to attempt to get a player out. Due to the secondary plate all attempted runs to home will be considered a force out. If a player leads off from 3rd but does not actively attempt to run home they can return to their base (this will be up to the umpires on whether they believe a player was attempting to score a run). This also goes for players rounding third but not committing to the score.

Playoffs

Playoffs will begin the week after all regular season games have been played.

Prior to playoffs only players on the team roster by midnight of the week 7 game are eligible for playoffs. No players can be added last minute and substitutions will only be allowed at League Owners discretion (please give 48 hour notice for substitutions to allow time for a decision to be made).

Roster checks and check ins will occur before playoff games. Participating in playoffs with an ineligible participant will result in an automatic forfeiture.

The top four teams with the best record will advance to the playoff rounds. Additional teams may be added at the league's discretion based on the size of the league.

Playoff games cannot end in a tie.

The above may change based on permits and league size. If changes are made the league will be given plenty of warning ahead of time.

Additional Changes

Additional rules and policies may be added or amended before or during the season. In the event that rules are changed or amended, they will be communicated to all players at the time of amendment.
